Envac China is pivotal in making Yantai-Hammarby Eco City achieve a sustainable Nordic lifestyle

At Yantai, China, a parallel between Sweden’s Hammarby region and the Nordic lifestyle is built to encourage sustainable living. Inspired by?Hammarby lake town in Stockholm, the Yantai eco-city introduces Nordic concepts and technical solutions to reduce the environmental impact of rapid urbanization.

The quintessential lifestyle is using hot water from 100% renewable sources and saving 14.3% of energy on HVAC systems. With 46% of green space in the residential area, there are water-saving devices such as humidity and raindrop sensors in use for landscaping.

“The features of Nordic-style gracious living are health focused, embracing nature, focusing on quality, and supporting sustainability. The eco-city in Yantai has made a successful case of introducing such lifestyle to China.” – Delegation of the European Union to the People’s Republic of China

Awards and accolades

The project has won many accolades and is recognized for its sustainable built environment. Along with the BREEAM rating, the project is voted as the best real estate development in the Yantai region. Yantai Hammarby Eco City also won the bronze MIPIM Asia Award for the best green development. It is attributed to contributing towards the United Nations sustainable development goal number 11, building sustainable cities and community.

Vanguards of the automated waste collection system

Envac system supports 90% less truck collection pollution along with reduced carbon emissions compared to a standard building.

This is the first residential project fully equipped with touchless inlets in Mainland China that enables a cleaner and safer community for residents. Using closed pipes to automatically collect waste underground creates more public spaces for plants and residential-friendly facilities. Automated Waste Collection System (AWCS) eliminates the secondary pollution of household waste and secures healthy living.

The project had an overall footprint of 159,302 tonnes of CO2?equivalent. This represents carbon intensity of 1,193 Kg CO2?equivalent/m2, 32% lower than the baseline carbon emissions of a standard building. This corresponds to avoiding the construction of 42,870 m2?of typical residential buildings.

To advocate for sustainability, White Peak designed and built a Sustainability Centre at Yantai Hammarby Eco City, showcasing the Hammarby Eco-City Model and White Peak’s sustainable development journey in China. The 400m2?Sustainability Centre showcases high-quality, health-focused, smart and green housing by Nordic standards. In the long run, the venue will be used for exhibition and community activities, to advocate for sustainable culture and lifestyle.

“When building the Hammarby Eco City in Yantai, we strive to make Swedish innovation, lifestyle, and sustainability advocacy flourish in China. We are delighted to work with Envac and bring its leading vacuum waste collection system to Yantai, as part of our integrated solutions to reduce environmental impact and create a pleasant living experience for the residents.” – Jesper Jos Olsson, Group CEO and Founding Partner, White Peak
