Meta is seeking a Research Engineer to join its Generative AI (GenAI) organization, focused on making significant advances in Generative AI. We publish groundbreaking papers and release frameworks/libraries that are widely used in the open-source community. Recent examples include the LLaMa family of Large Language Models (LLMs) and tool-augmented language models. We also collaborate with the FAIR and other organizations to bring the latest research findings to production.

We are looking for talented Natural Language Processing engineers to work with us on extending the capabilities of large foundation language models. The Research Engineer will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and cross-functional partners, and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and research facilities.

Research Engineer, Generative AI, Large Language Models (University Grad)

Job Responsibilities

Conduct research to advance the state-of-the-art in Large Language Models.

Build tools and frameworks to improve developer productivity and research velocity.

Work on software development across the LLM stack including training, evaluation, data pipelines and fine-tuning.

Develop and open source high quality libraries to reproduce results from our research efforts for the community.

Work with a variety of Meta product teams to bring our latest research to Meta products.

Qualifications

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

2+ years of experience working in Software Engineering or Natural Language Processing, or currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, relevant quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

Experience developing and debugging software in Python.

Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Experience with algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming.

Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred

Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by publications in top AI conferences like EMNLP, NAACL, ACL, NeurIPs, etc.

Experience in training, fine-tuning, and/or experimenting with foundation models beyond black-box use.

Demonstrated software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).

Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.

Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
