2011- My MBA was coming to an end and in my mind, I was juggling back and forth between ITIL and PRINCE2- which methodology should I focus my energy on. Mind you, till now I was not certified in either of them but found both interesting and was continuing to read up on them. During my MBA, I did meet a few project managers who had implemented PRINCE2 successfully in their projects. However, I was yet to meet someone who had implement all the modules of ITIL V3 successfully. People were still trying to figure out the differences between ITIL V2 and ITIL V3. I came across a nice article which lists out some of the major differences between them. The link is below:
Ratna, R. (2021, August 2). ITIL v2 Vs. v3: A Comparison. Experts Exchange. https://www.experts-exchange.com/articles/6536/ITIL-v2-Vs-v3-A-Comparison.html
Some people can obviously question why I am even writing about ITIL V2 which is not even in vogue right now. Afterall it is believed to be the era of ITIL 4. That is because I have always believed to understand what ITIL is today, you should understand what it has evolved from. So that we don’t end up reinventing the wheel.

One of the other websites that I found very helpful back in the day and keep going back for something or the other even today is the “IT Process Maps”. A relevant article based on the difference between ITIL V2 and ITIL V3 is given below
S. (2011). Comparison between ITIL V3 and ITIL V2 - The Main Changes | IT Process Wiki. IT Process Maps. https://wiki.en.itprocessmaps.com/index.php/Comparison_between_ITIL_V3_and_ITIL_V2_-_The_Main_Changes
Of course, it must be borne in mind that this was the era that even ITIL V3 was looking towards a transition. Although, it would be a year or so before I got my hands on the updated publication of what was being called ITIL 2011 or as I referred to it back then ITIL V3.2. With everything that was going around in the world of ITSM and ITIL I kept the idea of doing a certification on the freezer for 2011, hoping things would thaw out a bit within the year.
