LIDERAZGO/ LEADERSHIP

“Leadership is about people….So, it is important to understand their background, motivation and their expectations” Vanessa Miguelez

“Leadership is about having a vision and being able to inspire others along the way. It is about delegating, accountability and support” Marta Parente

“Leaders are recognized in each action, every day. Being a leader is not a matter of how many people follows you, listens to you or mimics what you do, it is something much more subtill. A leader is like a perfume, people feel it when a leader passes by” Rossana García

“It depends on what you mean by leader... But wherever people are we have to respect them, give them confidence, promote learning and mutual loyalty. It's about making people feel that they're an integral part of the team, that it's worth being where we are because it will allow us to learn and grow, through victories and mistakes. Listening actively and being sensitive to individual needs, because each person is unique” Claudia Cavadas

DIVERSIDAD/ DIVERSITY

“The more diverse is your team, the more creative and problem-solving will be”? Vanessa Miguelez

“I believe diversity brings organizations to their biggest potential, gender‐diversity being one of them. Having team members that don’t think alike, that come from different backgrounds, different age, gender, pushes all of us to listen to each other, to see many sides to one same story, to become better...” Marta Parente

“Open-mindedness (multiculturalism), flexibility and adaptation are increasingly important in an increasingly interconnected world” Maria Isolina Mesquita

“Essentially, it's about respecting diversity and through it achieving the best teamwork” (regarding leaders) Claudia Cavadas

IGUALDAD/ EQUALITY

“We need to grant that everyone accesses the same opportunities of development and professional evolution, despite any personal condition” Rossana García

“...let’s not have gender be the sole key factor to hiring. It wouldn’t be fair to any candidate. I believe in hiring or promoting the best talent you find, then support their growth" Marta Parente

“We need to grant that every-one accesses the same opportunities of development and professional evolution, de- spite any personal condition” ? Marta Rodriguez

“Competence is the factor that must prevail. However, it is true that meritocracy does not always prevail, and many competent (more competent) women end up not succeeding” ?????????????????????????????????????? Maria Isolina Mesquita

?

CONCILIACIóN/ WORK-LIFE BALANCE

“As you grow through your career, it’s all about choices. I was once advised that your abilities and your willingness to “sacrifice” and commit to a specific career path, must always match, always be in balance. When one of them weights more than the other, frustration arises. Thus, it’s important to take a step back, and reassess every now and then” Marta Parente

“Firstly, recognize we are not Wonder Women. It helps to reduce our frustration” Vanessa Miguelez

“Many women are overloaded with family tasks, and time is not elastic, so they end up making choices, typically to the detriment of their career (…) There's this tendency to think that women still have a lot to improve and that they have to manage their time more carefully, but in reality they end up not competing because they simply lack self-confidence and institutional support”???????? Claudia Cavadas

“I didn't choose them [women in management positions] because they are men or women, but because of their competence. There is increasing attention to talent, and women are increasingly better prepared, more demanding of themselves and more capable of reconciling their personal and professional lives” Maria Isolina Mesquita

?

EQUIPO/ TEAM

“Teamwork is essential. You can ?t climb the mountain alone. Rely on your colleagues and your family” Vanessa Miguelez

“People have to believe that they can do it. It's about having a contagious positive effect, making people believe in the projects they're involved in and in themselves” Claudia Cavadas

“We need to see each other as colleagues, and to find the way to align our interests in the benefit of the team and the project. And being a man or a woman doesn’t have anything to do with it” ? Marta Rodriguez

“Creating deep relationships means a lot to me. The interesting thing is to develop team spirit and make the other party feel part of the project, feel it as their own…” Maria Isolina Mesquita

?

HABILIDADES PERSONALES/ PERSONAL SKILLS

“Being pragmatic and make use of common sense never fails” Rossana García

“I do honestly believe in hard work, which doesn’t mean it isn’t smart work” Marta Parente

“Social skills were as important as technical competences. Being technically excellent was not enough, so much so that “a colleague did not overcome the program out of arrogance” Maria Isolina Mesquita

“It might seem presumptuous to say what helped me achieve my goals without sounding like self-praise, but I would say self-confidence. Thinking back, and even comparing myself to other people I know, perhaps self-confidence is the characteristic that makes a positive difference”???????????????????????? Claudia Cavadas

?

INSPIRACIóN/ INSPIRATION

“I have been inspired and coached by wonderful mentors, both men and women, through my career that have helped me get through some of these obstacles. I only wish but to give back to younger generations” Marta Parente

“I feel inspire by people that show incredible achievements with effort and dedication, independently of being woman or man” Rossana García

“It is interesting, in fact, to find people in our journeys who inspire us” Maria Isolina Mesquita

“Sometimes all it takes is a "push" from someone who motivates them and infects them positively to take the next step. And that was very much my role as Vice Rector" (referring to women)???????????????? Claudia Cavadas

?

APRENDIZAJE PERMANENTE/ CONTINUOUS LEARNING

“Learn continuously. Never stop because everything becomes obsolete very quickly”????????????????????????? ? Maria Isolina Mesquita

“Prepare yourself well. Studies are a power tool” —Maria Isolina Mesquita

“Be curious. Keep learning, exploring and improving my knowledge is essential”???????????????????????????????? ? Vanessa Miguelez

“…In essence, in each of the new positions I've taken on I've had to be willing to learn, do and contribute. I would emphasize the willingness to learn, to be a "student", as relevant”?????????????????????????? Claudia Cavadas

?

CONSEJO/ ADVICE

“Work hard every day to be better than the day before. Life is full of opportunities, get out, take them and transform yourself” Vanessa Miguelez

“Act now, you’ll figure things out as they come to you. You will likely have a new set of skills by then!” Marta Parente

“Cultivate an open mindset and be alert to the opportunities that arise along our path. There is no single path and we must avoid focusing on an “A” path to the point of blinding us to other options” Maria Isolina Mesquita

"Today is better than yesterday, and tomorrow will be even better" Claudia Cavadas

“… I could say that believing in oneself, being focused, chasing your dreams, working hard and never giving up, will al- ways be good ingredients to add to your personal receipt” ????????????????????? Marta Rodriguez

“…Always leading by example, while conveying the value of the effort and success will definitely impact the performance” Rossana García
