Entrepreneurship New Business Decline
ENTREPRENEURIAL ECOSYSTEM SUMMIT hosted NC IDEA FOUNDATION. This was a great event held last week at the North Hills Hilton. Several of the 50 speakers talked about the decline in entrepreneurship and new startups over the last decade--and whether that was a hangover from the depression of 2008 or the hugh student debt burden or the fact that students were not being taught the principles and benefits of entrepreneurship as a vocation. Tom Ruhe talked about NC IDEA'S NEW ICE HOUSE initiative and there was a lot a talk about the new VERGE between 2 year college/trade education and entrepreneurship. Still statistically for every new business started in NC or the US .8 fails in there first 6 months to 24 months of existence, and I find that failure rate to be totally unacceptable and the great entrepreneurial WASTE. I have some ideas why that failure rate is so high and how it can be fixed. I think that might be a topic for another SUMMIT.
