I've been reflecting recently on entrepreneurship and life, considering that an important chapter in my life is coming to an end and a new one is on the horizon. Here is a list of lessons and observations I have gathered from my experience. I would be curious to learn about yours.

  • Listen to what people say... on many different levels. Listen to the facts: Are the things they are sharing factually correct or just pure imagination? Listen to the feelings their words create within your body: How do what they say make you feel? Listen from the perspective of a curious observer as it will allow you to get a 360-degree overview of the whole situation.

And more importantly... And this is the second lesson:

  • Observe what they do. Everyone can share a story about how supportive they are. Frankly, the whole social media world seems to be a place of heroes and heroines battling the whole world that is against them (which might be true) and sharing their stories of heroism (which also might be true). And often they say how much we all can count on them because they are always there for us. And yet - their actions are quite the opposite. "I will support you no matter what" too often translates into ghosting and gaslighting. Believe me: I've tried it in moments of despair. So maybe, the lesson for us all should be:

Don't talk if your words don't match the reality. Imagine how beautifully silent the world would become.

  • Do your best, always. I learned that lesson very early by observing my oldest sister and then also my mentors. Over the years, I realized how much is going on behind the scenes of any (successful) or less successful projects. It doesn't matter if you do it with passion or without it, just do your best, no excuses, no blaming, no nothing. Just do your best. Give yourself the grace of doing your best every day. I promise you, going to sleep and falling asleep becomes an easy task when you know that you did your best and there is no one to blame.
  • Do what makes you uncomfortable. Or as someone said: When you're afraid to jump, that is exactly when you jump. Otherwise, you will stay where you are and I can't do it. Forget the "outside of the box" metaphor. Consider there is no box at all. Usually, our dreams and plans and big fat goals make us uncomfortable at first. The list of excuses why it is so is very long. It can be societal expectations, background, current circumstances, you name it.

The world is full of graveyards with human bodies made of broken dreams; the authors who never wrote a sentence, the business people who never tried to even talk about their ideas, the teachers who were afraid to apply to teacher's education.

People who, for many avoidable reasons, couldn't live their full potential.

  • Create. Create at night, create after working hours. Create for yourself the time and space for creating. Your life will expand to new dimensions when you do so. I promise you, I have tested it, and oftentimes I can't even imagine not creating.

And you? What are the entrepreneurial/life lessons you have learned? I'm curious to learn.

"Don't talk if your words don't match the reality" is such an important message. Some great observations too. Let's dream by experimenting.
