“Entrepreneurship as an Engine for Job Creation”??– NYS Trained on New Venture Creation

The Department Infrastructure Development’s (DID’s) National Service Youth (NYS) are attending training on?New Venture Creation?with SETA accredited training providers. This training is set to promote the creation of small businesses that will also act as employers.

Participants will gain skills and knowledge on how to create a new venture, the interpersonal skills required in a business environment, an understanding of basic economics within a market economy, the management of a new venture by applying business principles and techniques as well as understanding the role of leadership and management.

One of the Facilitators, Nkateko?Nkunkware?highlighted the importance of business principles, processes and the understanding of different procurement systems that may apply in a specific sector or industry. According to Nkunkware, “The New Venture Creation course will aid towards entrepreneurship which is crucial in transforming society. The education provided will stimulate new employment, which ultimately results in the acceleration of economic development. As the needs for public service evolves over time, entrepreneurship is essential especially in the modern, globally connected, and rapidly evolving environment which demands creativity and entrepreneurial skills. This training seeks to expand the perspective of participants and help them become included and recognise a wider range of opportunities and experiences”.

NYS participant, Dumile Makgato shared, “The programme motivates us to not conform to the traditional work environment, but to see entrepreneurship as an engine for job creation and inclusive growth both in the public and private sector”.

The DID, through the Chief Directorate, Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) recruited 2 500 NYS participants in the 2020/2022 Financial Year (FY), to provide the participants with workplace exposure and training. This cohort of participants will conclude the training segment of the NYS and exit the programme being more marketable with heightened skills and experience.
