Entrepreneurship education: a missing piece

Entrepreneurship education: a missing piece

Throughout my life there has been one question that has been asked many times: why didi you become an entrepreneur? I decided to become an entrepreneur (first Markafoni, some others in between and now Tiko) when I had already been working for many years, and it has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. However, I wish someone had told me about entrepreneurship when I was younger. That's why I think that professionals, who already have some experience in this, but above all, schools and universities, have the opportunity to sow the seed of entrepreneurship in young people so that they can choose whether they want it to grow or not.

#1 Youth don’t see entrepreneurship as an option

The concept of work is firmly embedded in society as something alien, i.e. working for someone else. Most commonly, professionals are offered very attractive job opportunities that require specific special skills and high salaries, which means that they do not consider entrepreneurship as a career option.

#2 We need new curricula

I believe that all young people should be educated in schools and universities about entrepreneurship so that they can see that there is the possibility of having this career opportunity.

Educational institutions are one of the main drivers of the economic ecosystem as they train people in certain disciplines, such as medicine, law, marketing or biology. Therefore, they should also promote the generation of innovative and disruptive ventures. Currently, most curricula do not provide specific training in this area, which means that a very low percentage of university students want to become entrepreneurs, as they do not see it as a short-term advantage.

#3 But entrepreneurship is not just a career opportunity

Although this term generally focuses on the field of business, it is important to emphasise that the purpose of encouraging entrepreneurship in young people goes far beyond teaching them how to set up a business.?

In my view, educational institutions have a fundamental role to play as an example of this entrepreneurial mindset, but this also translates into promoting their autonomy, developing their creativity, self-confidence and critical thinking.?

Through learning based on entrepreneurship, young people can learn about the economic and social reality of their environment, favouring the strengthening of fundamental values such as solidarity and the search for the common good. For this reason, I believe that? teaching this should become a priority in all academic fields.
