ENTREPRENEURSHIP 101: TWO-WAY STREET

ENTREPRENEURSHIP 101: TWO-WAY STREET

Hmm!?

Writing is not easy o!

After my last article, I have been thinking of making this a weekly publication. So I was thinking of what to write about what I had or am practically experiencing now. I wrote something and wasn't feeling what I wrote in my spirit was what I should write about so I erased it.

So I got a feeling to write on #entrepreneurial quotes that are not 100% correct then I stumbled on the above picture and had that EUREKA moment!

The journey of Entrepreneurship is a 2-way street – what you see when you are outside as a spectator versus the #reality when you step into it. There's this glam and class the name entrepreneur carries when mentioned, and that's what most people see. A lot of people see Entrepreneurship as a plug-play and you begin to dance Amapiano, Reggae, Soul, Jazz, or even Zazozeh!

Others see the journey of Entrepreneurship as having a vision and the result will show when you put one and two together. They think it’s a straight line from #Vision to result.

Story for the gods!

I don’t blame the individuals who envision the journey this way. We have so much sold the narrative of a “posh concept” of entrepreneurship that the average person who decides to step into the boat does not prepare for the storm or even the possibility of the boat capsizing.

The notion that Entrepreneurship is a cruise in a luxury car with a turbocharged engine is a fallacy. Entrepreneurship is a long-distance drive with a danfo bus. Just imagine that (I know only people who have entered a danfo bus will understand and if you have not, please ask a Lagosian or google it on youtube).

Just like the image above, the journey of an Entrepreneur is zig zag. As you start the journey and then you begin to go off track (not intentionally o) as a result of the diverse challenges that hit you from different angles at the same time. That’s when reality starts setting in and you will shout “Shey you dey whine me ni oh oh oh! The journey will just be ‘turnioniown’.

What keeps the entrepreneur stable and focused is the question ‘WHY DID I START THIS’?

If the reason for embarking on the odyssey of Entrepreneurship is not built on solid foundations, then you will feel sorry. See! You have to have a cogent reason for wanting the Life of an Entrepreneur or else you will feel eternal regret and depression when the storms hit. Sometimes, it will seem like all hell has been let loose over your case.?

We seldom see the scars of the Entrepreneur, what we see are the glam, porshness, and elegance. And as I said earlier, I don’t blame the individuals who see the Entrepreneur this way. Most entrepreneurs don’t talk about their pains or scars, some trivialize it and make it look simple and while others are ashamed to talk about it so they can enjoy the euphoria of being called a genius or superhuman.

Take it from me today, NO TRUE ENTREPRENEUR THAT DOES NOT HAVE SCAR(S) OR PAIN(S) THEY NURTURE.

My advice to Entrepreneurs(Old/Newbies/Aspiring) is when you meet someone you look up to, let your focus be on knowing how they handled the pains or scars to ease your turn too (because it must surely come). The fact is the Entrepreneur you look up to is at a point in his/her journey where he/she needs to celebrate his/her victories from the numerous battles and storms conquered, so they will do the glam life 100% (And no apologies for that).

I was in a clubhouse room yesterday and even while hearing great success stories and achievements by the anchor, my focus was on how he overcame the season of the drought of opportunities. When I got called to speak and I asked him the question. He explained some key nuggets and what he did when he was in his season of the perceived drought of opportunities and immediately I saw a clear path.

The reason for starting is the Key to staying focused and sane in the journey of Entrepreneurship.

Keep winning one day at a time!
