ENTREPRENEUR’S TIPS #22: DO YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THE RIGHT TYPE OF SUPPORT?

As you continue to build your business, it becomes increasingly clear that you need a lot of support. It is important to proceed with caution and carefully identify, not only what type and how much support you need from others, but the characteristics or qualities of the individuals that will provide that support. If not, one can find themselves surrounded by individuals that, even with the best intentions, do not possess the well-rounded personality and skill set that would best complement you and your entrepreneurial pursuits.

 Understandably, as an entrepreneur, limited resources can create certain restrictions. We can make the most of the resources we have if we have clarity around how we want and need to feel when we are surrounded by those we select to support us. The word “select” is key. Yes, necessity may guide some of your choices, but don’t neglect to include “selection” as part of the process. How can you experience the transformation that comes from dynamic support?

Ask yourself these questions: 

• If I could choose anyone, who would I choose to be on my support team? (Choose five individuals.)
• What characteristics/qualities of these individuals draw me to them?
• How would it feel to have these individuals support my goals?

 TIPS: Reflect on the above questions. Analyze how insight gained can be applied in your business. Decide how to incorporate necessary changes and take action. Collaborate with your mentor or coach to expand your capacity to recognize and take better advantage of the support you have.
