As entrepreneurs, we should connect all aspects of our lives with our conscience. Our conscience controls our words, thoughts, and actions.
In our business, our decisions should align with our conscience. At times, our resolve and moral backbone get tested by certain situations. We have to stand in support of our beliefs at all times.
We need to be vocal about our opinion when faced with any situation that threatens our integrity. We can consult with our business partner(s) or our life partner. We can seek advice from a mentor. Openly stating, we are uncomfortable being in a situation.
Another option is to seek support and feedback from the broader team about our business decisions. When we make choices from a moral standpoint, everyone is aware of where we stand. We can sincerely request that others respect our principled position.
Even though our response to a situation may be unpopular, we should stick to it. Others will refrain from changing our minds when they realize that decisions are grounded in our values.
Pay close attention to your conscience. Realize that once there is any doubt in your decisions, it is best is to adjust your actions. Your peace of mind is essential to succeed as an entrepreneur.
Self-Reflection Questions:
- When have I been asked to compromise my morals for the benefit of my company?
- What moral-based decisions have I made that have negatively impacted my business?
- How can I ensure that my integrity used to make choices in the work environment is not compromised?
