"Entrepreneuring", eating glass, and the Abyss

I was once asked about my greatest fear, and I clearly remember "Entrepreneuring" the answer to that question. "Entrepreneuring" is a word I created whilst writing this post. It is the easiest way for me to describe the things we, as entrepreneurs do when we find an undesirable outcome and sometimes truth, and instead of acceptance we turn it into some philosophical phraseology that adds to our rai·son d'ê·tre. We are really great at being the zombie movie character that gets bit, and instead of telling everyone we hide the bite mark and hope it won't become the obvious.

One such area where we struggle at is, "asking for help".

Asking for help generally resembles drinking acid to most entrepreneurs, especially when we start off, with most people around us struggling to understand the reason for this. They never understand the unbecoming it took for us to get to a point where we believed in ourselves, and the pain it took for us to look ourselves in the mirror and peel off all the layers, so that we can find what it is we're working with - what's under the hood... Some entrepreneurs go through a lot of trauma during this process, because sometimes it means them giving up whatever persona they had, whoever they were known by.

The ... that does ... (insert adjective, then insert verb)

Whatever they did before now was probably better than, "eating glass and staring into the abyss", a line coined by Elon Musk that very adequately captures the experience of entrepreneurship.

As entrepreneurs, we often try to do everything ourselves, thinking that asking for help shows weakness. But the truth is, asking for help is a sign of strength and can actually help us achieve our goals faster.

None of us have all the answers, and none of us can be an expert at everything. It's okay to admit when we don't know something or when we need help with a task. In fact, seeking out help from others can provide us with valuable insights, skills, and resources that we may not have had access to otherwise.

I encourage all of you to reach out to others for help when you need it. Don't be afraid to ask for advice, guidance, or support from mentors, colleagues, or other entrepreneurs in your network. You'll be surprised at how willing people are to help when you ask.

As an entrepreneur myself, suffering from this affliction, I dare you today, to embrace the power of asking for help. It's not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength and a willingness to learn and grow.

Remember, we're all in this together, and we're here to support each other on our entrepreneurial journeys.
