Entrepreneurial Entropy

As an engineer who embarked on the entrepreneurial journey, I am always looking for boundary conditions to build algorithms or rule sets that guide tangible, optimized decisions. I guess I'm trying to develop universal first principles of startup systems that will combine to define the unifying theory of entrepreneurship! I am certainly not the first, but that’s what this nerd does when not working on 3 tech-based startups, building robots with his daughters, picking out a dream home with his wife or playing Call of Duty with my buds. I spend just about every Wednesday taking on some sort of thought project – my creative day, if you will. Some days it’s cartooning, some days it’s reviewing my old circuits text book, and other days it sometimes gets metaphysical ... but it’s always about connecting dots for my own personal algorithm. Today’s dots – fighting *entropy* - Which, by the way, is dumb because it requires a perfect crystalline structure at 0 Kelvin. Conditions I don’t care to achieve; but in the same vein, I don’t care to operate in total chaos either. In checking out my desk (pictured), you probably see a lot of disorder! I think most folks seeing this might conventionally think, “dude has no focus, how can he possibly get anything done." I see it a little different. I have a controlled chaotic system that I love being immersed in … and keeping this system from spinning out of control actually requires a lot of work (W=F?d?cos(theta)) and, thus, power (P=W/t). Will this work for everyone? No, and I am sure the productivity gurus like Tim Ferriss and Tony Robbins are in "SMH" mode. BUT - after reading Find Your Why by Sinek, Mead and Docker, I think this is sort of my sweet spot ... it ironically plays beautifully to my self-diagnosed ADHD tendencies. Caveat: It works well because I surround myself with a BUNCH of smart people and mentors who integrate well into my system... maybe I'll do the next article on Entrepreneurial Enthalpy ;) But at the end of the day, isn't that what an innovative startup is – attempting to contain (not control) a variety of chaotic systems and releasing/destroying those systems that defeat the dynamics of the overall system? Just a thought I'd share for feedback... Agree/disagree? - How do you “control your own system's entropy”? #Blockchain #IoT #MedicalDevice #ArtistsWay #Veterans #RADAR #Pixar #TalkNerdyToMe #FindYourWhy

Start with R.O.A.D. Mapping to determine where you intend to go. Evaluate under the T.E.A.M. framework. If something doesn't work, RCA evaluation with a C.A.E.R.D. and developed solutions with the M.I.S.E.D framework. Then the cycle begins all over again.

That looks like our dining room table, minus the flu capacitor. I love what you're doing Rob!

I've been entertaining the thought of a minimal dosage approach to personal entrepreneurial systems. I use to really enjoy a robust system with ability to “handle it all” but question the amount of energy to stay organized vs the output of the system. Basically I use Evernote in its simplest form to track work flow right now. Thanks for the thoughts!

Perfectly nerdy piece that registers with what many experience. Looking forward to more. I love that you intentionally take time to fill up on Wednesdays.
