Entrepreneur Spotlight: Massiel Eversley
As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we want to recognize and celebrate the fearless female entrepreneurs developing innovative products, bettering the lives of women everywhere.?
Massiel Eversley MJ, RN, NE-BC,CPC is a graduate of our 2022 Social Impact Accelerator Cohort. After struggling to find the right nutrition to help her recover from a Cesarean Section, Eversley developed the idea for her company, Nisus Life .
Focused on clean nutrition and wellness throughout motherhood, Nisus Life offers a vegan postpartum and lactation protein powder that addresses the nutrition needs of a postpartum body while supporting lactation, mood, and healing long after birth. Eversley says her goal is to make health simple, and provide mothers with an all in one solution.
This month, we caught up with Eversley to talk about her unique journey and how she used her medical background and lived experiences as a working mother and wife to develop an exceptional product noticeably absent from the traditional market.?
Tell us about your business and what inspired you to start it.?
Nisus Life is a dietary supplement company focused on clean nutrition and wellness throughout the motherhood journey. I was inspired to start this venture after I experienced difficulties with finding the right combination of clean ingredients my body needed to recover after a Cesarean while simultaneously preparing to go back to work. I found many products that look healthy but include undesirable ingredients such as high sugar, dairy, gluten, and soy. I also found that for many months and even years after a pregnancy, the body has specific nutrition gaps and protein needs that can be addressed if taking the right supplements.?

What is your experience with SEG, and how has the organization helped you on your business journey?
Becoming part of the Social Impact Accelerator cohort was a great experience for me. I was able to get clear on the foundations of what it really means for me as an entrepreneur to run a business that wants to have meaningful social impact. I was able to solidify business foundations, get clear of financials/projections, and identify my competitive advantage. I also met other amazing entrepreneurs, learned to pitch my business, and after graduation was awarded a grant that helped with my marketing strategy. One of the greatest benefits was working 1-1 with a mentor in my industry that was able to provide valuable insights and support throughout the program.?
What are some of the unique challenges you’ve faced as a female entrepreneur and business owner??
I am a wife and mother of three and have had to work to have a lean business model where I delegate in order to be present in my home life. I also have had to be at peace with organic growth in my business as I have bootstrapped from the start. Statistically, venture capital investments that go to women are less than 3% and they are even lower for women of color / Afro Latinas such as myself. So, I have known from the start that the entrepreneurship journey is one of learning, challenges, and personal growth.
What does it mean to you as a woman to own your own business and serve mothers??
I created this product at a time where motherhood felt hard and the solution I created is one that came straight from my heart. I am traditionally trained as a Registered Nurse, which is one of the most trusted professions. As a nurse, I feel it is my duty to innovate, create solutions, and contribute towards the wellbeing of the women who need support during such a vulnerable time. I always think of the women who need these solutions and don’t even know it. But once they find it, they share how it really helped them with their energy or helped them meet their breastfeeding goals. It really is a privilege for me to know that our product made a positive difference in someone’s postpartum journey.
What advice do you have for female entrepreneurs who are thinking about taking the next step and getting involved with SEG??
I would encourage them to take the leap and be open to new possibilities. SEG’s curriculum is thorough, and the program structure is wonderful. Women need to be part of communities that understand what they are going through and can offer support during and after the accelerator process. SEG can provide the motivation they may be looking for to take strides in their business. They will not regret it.
Thank you for the wonderful highlight and continued support !
