Alfery considers Entrapment to be on of her "One-In-A-Million" works. They are works that are not determined by what sells, what has worked before or what sells. They are works that are not tight, not controlled, not forced into being. The artist explains, "These works are why I paint every day. I am seeking the freedom that only happens in those few works where my soul and my marks become something independent of me - yet I am in the work. These works become a thing in themselves and I stand back in wonder".

Alfery often speaks of freedom as vital to her creative process. To her, freedom is "as open as a child’s mind when they are choosing a color from a box of 100 different crayons. Freedom is filled with the endless possibilities of that color."

The artwork "Entrapment" began as a different work "Magic Carpet Ride". Only after the artist had the courage to cut the top off "Magic Carpet Ride" and turn it 90 degrees did Alfery find the freedom she was looking for. Clearly, the judges for this exhibition agree.
