Entertainment & Malls: #PRC2023 Hosts Therapy Session for a Special Relationship!

Has the Multiplex lost its leading role in the entertainment mix of retail destinations? Not at all, say cinema exhibition companies. They interpret yawning supply gaps and the density mismatch across different zones in India as major growth opportunities. Andhra Pradesh, for instance, houses 1125 screens, while the much larger state Uttar Pradesh has a mere 500. Even compared against other lifestyle categories, they say, the numbers scream an opportunity story: Bata, Domino’s, Lenskart, for instance, have 2000+, 1700+, 1300+ sales locations respectively. PVR-INOX and Cinepolis have a combined total of 450, and they have largely penetrated just Metros and Tier I so far.
Shopping centre developers, on the other hand, believe that unless ticket price and size rationalisation are addressed, the special relationship between malls and multiplexes may be over. Oversized multiplexes — with low footfalls and high running costs — are bleeding their operators dry, and occupying valuable space in malls, and it may be time to look towards more immersive, 360-degree experiences — something that perhaps a next-generation FEC can deliver. For an investor, the economics of setting up an FEC v/s a Multiplex are also more attractive.
But analysts believe while FEC and F&B mixes in malls are certain to expand significantly, India is on course to generate one of the world’s largest cinema circuits in 8-10 years. But, how will the pipeline be built? Can India create a Haldiram’s of cinema exhibition for its top 50 cities?
This one is certain to be a very high-engagement, passionately debated conference session at #PRC2023 ! Book your seat today to watch this and experience the truly spectacular conference at?Phygital Retail Convention 2023 on May 11th and 12th!?
