Melanie Mitchell’s article – The LLM Reasoning Debate Heats Up – October 21st, 2024

Are you following the debate on whether LLMs have reasoning powers? As LLMs are being used more extensively across industries, concerns about the tech’s trustworthiness have become a hot topic. In this fascinating article, the brilliant Melanie Mitchell (Professor of Complexity at the Santa Fe Institute) weighs in on whether LLMs have the capacity to reason.

Analysing three pivotal papers on the subject, Mitchell examines issues such as training, chain-of-thought prompting and benchmark testing to evaluate LLMs’ current reasoning and problem-solving capabilities.
