Empowering Digital Transformation through Enterprise Architecture Excellence.
Presented by: Michael Kamberov and Christoph Moser
Write-up by: Hazel Grace Cantuba
At a recent conference, Michael Kamberov and Dr. Christopher Moser from BOC Group discussed their vision for transforming Enterprise Architecture (EA) from traditional, siloed methodologies to a dynamic, service-oriented approach. EA has often been seen as complex and fragmented, struggling to deliver consolidated value across organizations. Mr. Kamberov highlighted that many current EA practices operate in isolation, resulting in inefficiencies and limited impact.
They proposed a shift towards specific, value-driven services tailored to stakeholder needs, moving away from a monolithic repository of information. This new approach aims to make EA more accessible and actionable for non-architects. The speakers emphasized the need for understandable deliverables, stating that "EA outputs must be comprehensible to non-architects to inspire collaboration." They also highlighted that "EA should prioritize the specific needs of stakeholders," advocating for a customized service model. Lastly, they discussed the importance of outcome-driven architecture, explaining that "while architects might think in terms of layers, the focus should be on delivering concrete outcomes that matter to stakeholders."

The presentation identified challenges in traditional EA, including over-engineered designs and the need for repeatable, automated services. EA can provide consistent value and build trust by creating a catalog of proven services with clear Service Level Agreements. They showcased how EA services are structured within the tool ADOIT, facilitating collaboration between business stakeholders and enterprise architects. Integrating AI and machine learning enhances these services by providing actionable insights, ensuring that "even stakeholders without deep technical knowledge can engage with and benefit from EA services."
The speakers concluded with actionable advice for organizations starting their EA journey. They recommended identifying and prioritizing EA services for immediate support while conducting risk prioritization and understanding stakeholder needs. Furthermore, they suggested developing a long-term strategy over the next 12 months to integrate and expand these services, focusing on demonstrating value and fostering trust.
Dr. Moser emphasized co-creation, noting that delivering value and convincing stakeholders to collaborate is crucial. By adopting a service-based, stakeholder-centric approach, EA can evolve from a siloed practice to a dynamic discipline that effectively supports digital transformation, driving meaningful change and aligning with broader organizational goals.
