Entering Peak Performance Zone

IN THE ZONE - Delivering peak performance is the ambition of all elite athletes, but that ambition is also present in all top professionals and any good business.
F1 champion Lewis Hamilton found his perfect zone of performance in winning the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix with ease.
"We all try for perfection and it is not always easy to deliver like that but today, for me and the car, I was ecstatic," he said. "It just felt like I was at a high plane."
He couldn't explain how he produced a 'perfect' performance, but in elite sports, as in life, it's always about getting your mind onto the right frequency so that negative thoughts, doubt and worries that interfere with physical performance are eliminated.
Absence of doubt in the conscious mind allows the automatic thinking subconscious mind to guide your actions. Hamilton spoke of having clarity of mind, which is the ability to focus only on what he is doing - driving - and to ignore all mental distractions.
We are no different from elite athletes in our capacity to think and to focus. If we train ourselves to focus and think from the goal, and have been trained well in what to do, we can enter a zone of peak performance and produce excellent results.
It's that focus of attention on doing, to the exclusion of everything else, driven by a strong desire for a specific outcome, that enables us to take productive action.
The coaching directive is 'when you are driving, drive. Do not think about driving. Thinking is not driving. Only driving is driving.' When you focus on the doing, without any thought to how well you are doing it, and you empty your mind of judgement, then your actions and performance become pure, untainted by mental activity that interferes with your intentions.
When we elevate our performance it's almost always because we have elevated our thinking.
Think only of how you can, not of why you can't.
Your actions always follow your thoughts, and if you believe you can succeed, you will.
In the words of a champion, who knows we can all do better, Hamilton said: "I always like to talk about trying to be our higher selves, because each of us has an unlimited capacity."
