Reimagining Lower-Limb Prosthetics

Lower-limb prosthetics have barely changed in decades. They help people walk, but they’re clunky, uncomfortable, and don’t come close to matching the natural feel and function of a biological limb. Even the most advanced options leave users struggling with balance and fluid motion.

HuMod finds this unacceptable. So, we're building Genesis—a new kind of prosthetic that doesn’t just restore limb length, but restores the way we move.

Why Most Prosthetics Fall Short

Today’s prosthetics focus on basic functionality—letting users stand up and walk around. But this bare minimum approach is why so many prosthetics feel like a rigid, lifeless tool rather than a true part of the body. Even with years of development, most devices still offer a stiff gait, limited range of motion, and a constant reminder of what’s missing.

What’s worse is that for the user, the experience is compromised. They’re constantly aware of their prosthetic and have to consciously adapt their movements to suit the device, rather than the other way around. For a long time, this has been considered “good enough” because there wasn’t a viable alternative.

A New Approach: Intelligent, Adaptive, and Human-Centric

HuMod’s approach with Project Genesis is different. Instead of just focusing on the mechanical aspects, we’ve built an intelligent, active system that learns and adapts to the user’s movement patterns, going beyond emulation to deliver truly bio-integrated design.

The core of Project Genesis is the Adaptive Drive Algorithm (ADA). ADA uses real-time feedback from multiple sensors—like Inertial Measurement Units and magnetic encoders—to make on-the-fly adjustments. The result is a prosthetic that feels like a natural extension of the body, adjusting to the user’s gait, speed, and even terrain changes without requiring manual intervention.

And it doesn’t stop there. Project Genesis features autonomous calibration systems which ensure the prosthetic is always aware of its exact position and responds accurately. This means fewer trips to the clinic, and more time spent moving freely and confidently.

Moving the Needle on Mobility

The real innovation here isn’t just the tech—it’s the mindset. Most prosthetics aim for a level of function that’s “good enough.” Project Genesis is striving for a standard that’s “human enough.” That means prioritizing fluid, natural movement and making the user feel less like they’re using a tool and more like they’ve regained a part of themselves.

Project Genesis is designed to do more than just check the box—it’s built to restore true, confident mobility. And HuMod is just getting started. Our goal is to create prosthetics that empower users to forget about the hardware and focus on what matters: living life to its fullest.

Restoring lower-limb length is important, but it does not equate to mobility restored. Project Genesis is here to make mobility restoration accessible to all—and to redefine what the world expects from lower-limb prosthetics.
