Entain and McLaren in the Driving Seat Helping Women Return to Work in STEM

unikrn parent company, Entain, and Formula 1 Team McLaren, have come together to create a joint “Returnship” six month programme, which went live on January 17, to help women returning to careers in the worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).?

This partnership is sister to Entain’s current Reboot@Ivy initiative, which focuses on assisting women in Manila and Hyderabad in returning to careers in STEM-focused positions.?

Zak Brown, CEO, McLaren Racing, commented: "We are excited to be launching the first returnship of its kind within F1 in partnership with Entain. This is an opportunity to drive real change within the Engineering and Technology industries and is part of our overall commitment to making STEM careers more accessible to all, and to having 40% of our employees from under-represented backgrounds by 2030.”?

For those new to the term, a returnship is described by Wiktionary as an “internship-like program for experienced workers looking to reenter the workforce after an extended period, particularly in a new line of work” or after a parental break.?

The number of women in STEM has been growing (26% of STEM graduates and 24% of STEM employees respectively are women, as of this writing), thanks in part to initiatives such as this one and others. Australia has pledged AUS $15 million across 17 projects aimed at supporting women to study and build a career in STEM. In addition, Google has pledged $1 million to women-led startups in India.?

Additionally, women are also becoming more involved in betting, with women now making up 26% of global sports bettors, and 40% of global sports fans. So initiatives such as the Entain x McLaren Returnship, are right on track for helping to create a STEM workforce that mirrors the evolving gaming audience.?

Jette Nygaard-Andersen, Entain CEO, said: “The fusion of technology, sport… entertainment, and [the] desire to support talented women re-entering the workforce meant that launching this brand-new programme with our partner, McLaren, is an obvious step. We share a passion and commitment for giving women a platform to reignite their careers in STEM and hope that through this programme, we not only support a generation of ambitious women now but inspire future generations of girls to land their dream STEM role.”?

An initial setup of ten Returnship spaces have been created, with the deadline now being extended to next Tuesday, February 14, and is tailored to suit different kinds of women at different stages in their career.?

Qualifying applicants will have the unique opportunity to be coached 1-on-1 by qualified staff, in all things relating to returning to work, flexible working, networking with senior executives, and will also be able to discuss possible employment options upon completion of the programme.?

This level of personalisation makes the Entain x McLaren Returnship a good choice for women who want to return to STEM but, after time away,? may feel daunted at the prospect.?

If you have experience either working in or studying STEM, and would like to return to a job that is as rewarding as it can be challenging, returnships such as the one Entain is offering could be the way to go.?
