Ensuring Clean Water Access for 125,000 People Through Engineering Excellence
In Tanzania’s semi-arid lowlands, the communities of Same, Mwanga, and Korogwe districts have long faced significant challenges in accessing clean and reliable water, leading to health risks, economic stagnation, and social inequities.
To address this urgent issue, the Same-Mwanga-Korogwe Water Supply Project was initiated to provide a sustainable water solution for 37 villages and two small towns across the Pare Mountains. The project involved constructing a 130 km water supply network, two high-capacity pump stations, and a water treatment plant capable of processing 69,000 m3 per day.
By leveraging over six decades of engineering expertise, C.R.I. Pumps played a crucial role by supplying state-of-the-art pumping solutions tailored to the project's unique requirements. This initiative has ensured a sustainable water supply and improved public health, supported agriculture, and fostered economic and social development.
This case study highlights this transformative project's challenges, solutions, implementation process, and outcomes.
Problem Statement
Access to clean water has been a persistent issue in the Same, Mwanga, and Korogwe districts, severely affecting health, agriculture, and economic development. The existing water supply infrastructure was inadequate, resulting in unreliable access to safe drinking water. An urgent need for a sustainable, high-capacity water distribution system was identified to combat waterborne diseases and enhance the quality of life for thousands of residents.
Solution Identification & Selection
Recognizing the magnitude of the challenge, C.R.I. Pumps' channel partner engaged with stakeholders to identify an efficient and sustainable pumping solution. A dedicated team of product developers, technical experts, and engineers conducted an extensive study of project requirements, focusing on performance metrics, site conditions, and long-term sustainability.

Production & Testing:
The project required engineering precision and expertise. A remarkable feat was manufacturing a single-piece casting weighing 2000 kg. To ensure reliability, third-party engineers from Tanzania visited C.R.I. Pumps’ state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in India to validate the design and performance metrics before shipment.
Results & Impact
Once fully operational, the project will significantly enhance water accessibility for 125,000 people, delivering:
Conclusion
The Same-Mwanga-Korogwe Water Supply Project is a testament to the power of engineering, innovation, and international collaboration in addressing critical infrastructure challenges. By leveraging high-performance pumping solutions, C.R.I. Pumps played a pivotal role in securing clean and reliable water access for thousands of people.
This initiative not only underscores the impact of strategic planning and advanced technology but also exemplifies how global partnerships can drive meaningful change in underserved regions, ultimately transforming lives and fostering sustainable development.
