ENRICHING LEARNING IN INTERNSHIP PERIOD IN SMARTSTREAM TECHNOLOGIES.

The financial technology (abbreviated ‘fintech’ or ‘FinTech’) industry denotes the industry that is comprised of companies which use technology for the efficient delivery of various financial services. In the recent years, India has projected itself as a growing market for Fintechs with a population of nearly 1.3 billion. A huge percentage of unbanked and under banked population is making India an exhilarating global space for financial technology firms. Such companies, often regarded as ‘new-age’ firms, are trying to replace the traditional transaction systems with noble and effective methods by applying technology in financial sectors with the objective of bringing further benefits and achieving higher efficiency. SmartStream Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (SST) is a Fintech firm which operates on the global space with and provide solutions that use the most advanced technologies to help customers realize their digital strategies and create leaner post trade operations allowing them to meet todays and tomorrow’s challenges with confidence. This paper presents a brief writeup about the company’s background, followed by a writeup about my work, experience, and key takeaways as an Intern of SST India’s FEMS Onboarding Team from 14th December,2020 to 2nd May,2021.

Now coming to the objective of the project part as an intern working in these real life project of top investment bank is a great learning curve for me. The amount of experience I am getting of handling real life data, analysing it, using it find more information from it a big challenge at times. Another positive objective of working in this project is that getting knowledge of various stock exchanges, product type, specialist brokers for various product types and many more things. Secondly while working on this project team is that I am getting exposed to various software’s and technologies for doing the job. Which is actually improving my analytical skills. Finance related work is actually helping me to brush up my domain knowledge what I learned in IFIM classroom lecture days.

Even though the process is done by the software, it requires a major chunk of manual work as the data have to be fed onto the system manually. Therefore, the usage and application of new age technology such as AI and Machine learning can be increased greatly. Processes will become more streamlined. Manual work should be minimised. This will also cut down the cost in terms of time and will avoid unnecessary mistakes. Large financial institutions still have bottlenecks in their back office and middle office operations which have implications on the cost of the operations overall. So, SmartStream solutions which provide software and managed services which cover all steps of the Trade lifecycle, have a lot of scope.

Internships gives graduates a taste of working within the industry. It gives a general idea of the structure of how the company works, what the culture will be like in similarly related companies and general knowledge of the field. Prior to working within the industry, we might have a skewed view of how the business works, gaining deeper insights with internship work experience. Having an understanding of the market and industry can advance my career significantly. Through this internship opportunity.

While working in these company in Fintech Space for first time is helping me lot to gain knowledge how technology is playing crucial part in financial sector. How technology is a gateway for financial transaction all over the world. The platform or Software owned by SmartStream are running with help of Block Chain Technologies and AI support. Modern day finance companies heavily depend on technology. These internship in SmartStream Technologies not only shaping me up for new age finance roles but upskilling me to deliver work efficiently to the clients in coming years.
