Enough with the concrete classes!!
Everyone wants to teach CONCRETE! Enough, what about our wood substrates?
Everyone, it seems these days, is a concrete expert even if they are not a concrete engineer.
Everyone, it seems these days, wants to teach a course on concrete substrates.
What about our wood joist systems and subfloor panels, plywood and OSB?
Why doesn’t anyone want to teach this topic? Well, first, you need a structural engineer, and it helps, if they are a WOOD STRUCTURAL ENGINEER! and a background in Wood Science.
April 28, 2023, a wood structural engineer, with a strong background in wood science, is teaching two classes that everyone, from manufacturers to building contractors to flooring contractors, installers and most certainly, flooring inspectors, should take.
There are few wood structural engineers who are closely associated with flooring.
After earning his PhD. as a wood structural engineer from Clemson University, Dr. DeWitt started working in the construction industry. While attending Clemson University, he worked in home construction.
For forty years, he has worked closely with construction companies helping with design issues, troubleshooting complaints, and consulting. He has been a consultant to the equipment companies that make the Drying Equipment for the restoration trade and restoration companies.
Dr. DeWitt taught inspection classes for many years at the former National Oak Flooring Manufacturing Association.
Restoration companies, there are things in this class that can help you do a better job and also, understand what is happening when you dry a wood structure to prevent problems.
One of Dr. DeWitt’s main focus in his research and work has been moisture in our buildings and the effect of moisture on wood used in building; and second, building science environments in these structures that affect our different types of flooring. ?
Dr. DeWitt wrote the first standards and instructions for sealing crawl spaces.
He is a excellent instructor who has worked closely with inspectors. He knows what we need to know to help us and now, he is going to teach us two courses.
First class: Wood substrates and the different types of joists systems. From solid to engineered, Plywood and OSB. Moisture effects and loads and how to identify the issues.
When: Starting at noon eastern, webinar, April 28, 2023.
Second class to follow in two weeks: Many inspectors have bought IR cameras or the Flir attachments for their cell phones.

An IR class can cost $2000.00, then add in travel, hotels and meals and the cost becomes prohibitive to attend.
Many of the topics taught in the week-long class are not needed by flooring professionals.
Dr. DeWitt uses his IR camera in his work examining buildings; and knowing what we need, agree to teach us a class on the proper use and understanding of what the IR camera is revealing.
There are correct procedures to use and not following those procedures can result in errors that can be costly.
Both webinar classes are $100.00 each.
These savings are huge for flooring professionals.
This class is being promoted by the Guild, but all tuition payments are directly to Dr. DeWitt. That's how strongly we think this long ignored but important topic needs to be addressed within our industry and trade.
The goals of these classes are to teach how to prevent problems while also, being able to identify correctly issues with our substrates.
These two classes are related, one leads into the other. You can use the IR course to identify substrate moisture issues.
Flooring contractors, do you want to be among the best? Do you want the knowledge to prevent complaints that steal your profits?
Restoration companies, learn what happens to the structures when you dry wood in a flooded building.
Inspectors, you do NOT want to look foolish because you lacked the understanding needed to identify issues with our substrates?
This class is currently not taught at any of the inspection schools by anyone of Dr. DeWitt's background, experience and education. The best instructors from the best inspection schools will be attending.
Knowledge is the key to success
