10 个月The true intent of nations (governments) will rapidly be exposed once the floodgates of AGI break wide open. Unlike the Manhattan Project where the race towards nuclear weapons was between a couple of superpowers, the access of this technology is available worldwide. Imagine every nation during WWII having access to a nuclear weapon at the same time. I don’t think most people truly understand the risks and dangers that are at our doorstep. The world is being warned, but I don’t see much reaction. If a figure like Elon Musk can’t get the government’s attention, nor the publics. Lesser-known figures like Eric Weinstein very clearly and perhaps over dramatically describe the dire circumstances of a cascade event, go unnoticed but for a small audience. I’m optimistic but worried. The race should not be on for not how fast AGI can be achieved, but how quickly counter measures can be created to effectively pull the plug in a runaway event. As someone who loves technology, I love the idea of a super intelligent system that benefits and protects humanity. As someone that has experienced the world for ‘many’ decades, seen how awful people can be to each other, I fear for what could happen if such power gets into the wrong hands first. ?
