One key strategy that has been implemented by many countries to streamline cross-border trade processes is the establishment of One-Stop Border Posts (OSBPs) with Zambia having its first OSBP at Chirundu border which borders between Zambia and Zimbabwe and growing to four more (4) OSBPS namely Chirundu, Nakonde, Kazungula and Mwami borders. OSBPs are integrated border management facilities where all regulatory and customs procedures are carried out in a single location, thereby reducing the time and costs associated with cross-border trade. This article explores some few benefits of OSBPs in enhancing trade efficiency and promoting economic development.

Despite having many benefits, it must be mentioned that this does not come without a full scale roll out to fully get the benefits especially in the African set up with Zambia being used as an example. For example, there are too many government agencies at on entry/exit point for traders to clear through their merchandise, low investment in technology and innovation. Suffice to state that we have a single window system which is yet to be fully utilized with less sensitization among the market players.
