Enhancing Rail Safety: Sentinel CAS - The Future of Collision Avoidance Systems

Over a decade ago, Protran Technology embarked on a journey to revolutionize rail safety. With the release of our Roadway Worker Protection products, we took a significant step towards ensuring the well-being of railway workers worldwide. Since then, we have continued to innovate, and today, we proudly introduce our latest milestone: the LiDAR-Based Collision Avoidance System, Sentinel CAS. In this issue, we'll explore how this groundbreaking technology combines RF, LiDAR, Vision, and AI to enhance rail safety and efficiency.

Sentinel CAS: A Fusion of Technologies

Our Sentinel Collision Avoidance System (CAS) represents the culmination of years of research and development. This state-of-the-art system combines our proven RF technology with LiDAR, Vision, and AI to create a comprehensive solution capable of alerting operators to any potential obstacles in the trackway. Here are some key features that make Sentinel CAS a game-changer in rail safety:

  • Advanced Detection Range: Sentinel CAS offers front and rear detection capabilities, with a range of up to 600 feet, even when traveling at speeds of up to 35mph.
  • Weather-Resistant: This system works reliably in various weather conditions, including bright sunlight, light rain, fog/mist, and dust, ensuring consistent performance regardless of environmental challenges.
  • Remote Accessibility: Authorized Personnel can remotely access the system for updates, downloads, configuration adjustments, and data log retrieval, providing convenience and ease of use.
  • Multi-Event Tracking: Sentinel CAS can track multiple events simultaneously, ensuring that it doesn't miss any potential threats on the railway.
  • Intelligent Alarm Management: The system is designed to ignore false alarms triggered by non-threatening objects such as flags, poles, or bushes within the alarm zone, reducing unnecessary disruptions.
  • Rail Track Detection: Sentinel CAS can detect and follow the railroad track, enhancing its ability to provide accurate alerts based on the position of the vehicle.
  • Configurable Alarming Zones: Users can configure multiple alarming zones based on work speed and travel speeds, allowing for flexibility in safety management.
  • Audible Alerts: The system offers configurable audible alerts using .mp3 files, ensuring that operators receive immediate, clear notifications of potential dangers.
  • Comprehensive Data Logging: Sentinel CAS keeps detailed data logs of all alarm events, including video recordings, enabling post-incident analysis, and reporting.
