Enhancing Mental Health Support for Young Students in Tanzania

As we embark on a new year, AHADI is making strategic strides to advance youth-focused mental health services in Tanzania. January has been a month of alignment, collaboration, and impactful discussions with key stakeholders. Here’s a look at our recent activities:

Building a Stronger Foundation: Team Building and Strategic Planning

Earlier this month, our team came together for a strategic planning session aimed at refining our vision, mission, and goals for the year ahead. This session reinforced our alignment, teamwork, and collective commitment to ensuring impactful mental health programs for young people across Tanzania.

With a renewed sense of purpose, our team is ready to elevate mental health access through digital services and community outreach programs, reducing stigma and improving the overall wellbeing of Tanzanian youth.

Strengthening Partnerships: AHADI Engages with Key Stakeholders

Last week, our Executive Director, Dr. Juliana Busasi, and Program & Operations Manager, Neemamaria Dulle, engaged in a two-day strategic discussion with the Ministry of Health (Health Promotion Section) and the President’s Office, Regional Administration, and Local Government (PO-RALG).

The discussions centered on advancing youth-focused mental health promotion and preventive services nationwide. This dialogue marks a significant step toward stronger collaborations and policies that prioritize mental health and ensure greater accessibility of services for young Tanzanians.

Shaping the Future: Contributing to the 5-Year Strategic Plan for the National Afya Call Center

At the end of last year, TAHMEF? had the privilege of participating in a crucial workshop organized by the Ministry of Health (Department of Preventive Services, Health Promotion Section) in collaboration with Village Reach and Reach Digital Health.

As a key implementing partner in mental health promotion, prevention, and counseling for youth, AHADI is actively working with the National Afya Call Center (199) to build the capacity of call center agents. We are equipping them with the knowledge and necessary skills to handle mental health-related inquiries effectively.

The implementation of this strategic plan will have a far-reaching impact beyond Tanzania, benefiting the East African region and the African continent as a whole. The goal is to transform the Afya Call Center into a leading telehealth service hub, providing crucial mental health support across multiple countries.
