#EnhancedByEngineering - Unstoppable Forces

Welcome colleagues, friends and allies.

We have just under a week left until our 10th annual INWED and we’re determined to make it our biggest and best celebration yet. Over the past few months we have explored and celebrated pioneering women from throughout history who have shaped the future of our world through influential innovations. While we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the extraordinary female minds in engineering, every woman we have honoured has been an unstoppable force.

We invite you to join us in a celebration of innovation, sharing your stories of success and adversity, the remarkable women who have inspired you and advice for future generations using the hashtag #EnhancedByEngineering. Together let’s reflect on the significant contributions made by women in our field and inspire future pioneers to pursue greatness.

This weeks spotlight: Dr Mae Jemison

Meet the extraordinary Mae Jemison, an American engineer, physician, and former NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut who has left an indelible mark on history. Born on October 17, 1956, in Decatur, Alabama, Jemison became the first African American woman to travel into space, serving as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992.

Jemison's journey began with her love for science and her unwavering determination to break barriers. With degrees in Chemical Engineering, African and African-American studies from Stanford University, and a medical degree from Cornell University, she served as a medical officer in the Peace Corps before achieving her lifelong dream of becoming an astronaut.

In recognition of her remarkable accomplishments, Jemison has received several awards and honorary doctorates. Today, she continues to inspire as a scientist, entrepreneur, and public speaker, advocating for STEM education and diversity in the field.

As we celebrate the incredible Mae Jemison, let her trailblazing spirit and relentless pursuit of excellence serve as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring engineers and innovators everywhere.
