#EnhancedByEngineering - Setting Your Sights On The Stars

Welcome colleagues, friends, allies.

In this week's edition we set our sights on the stars, honouring the incredible achievements of women engineers who are pushing the boundaries of possibility and shaping our world for the better. Join us as we explore the remarkable ways these trailblazers are revolutionising technology, fostering sustainability, and breaking barriers to make the impossible a reality. Together, let's celebrate the power of engineering and the inspiring women who are leading us on an extraordinary journey through the cosmos of innovation.

This weeks spotlight: Ellen Ochoa (1958)

Ellen Ochoa , a renowned American engineer and former astronaut, made history as the first Hispanic woman to venture into space. Born in 1958 in Los Angeles, California, Ochoa's remarkable journey began with her love for science and her unwavering determination to break barriers.

With a bachelor's degree in physics from San Diego State University and a Master's Degree and Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, Ochoa has made significant contributions to the field of optics and optical recognition systems.

Ochoa's impressive career as an astronaut includes four space missions, logging over 1,000 hours in space. In 2013, she assumed the role of Director of the Johnson Space Center, making her the first Latina and second female director in the centre's history.

For her remarkable achievements, Ochoa has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2023, the highest civilian honour in the United States.

As we commemorate Ellen Ochoa's inspiring journey, let her story be a reminder that determination and passion can lead to groundbreaking accomplishments, and that the sky is not the limit when you set your sights on the stars.
