#EnhancedByEngineering - The First Official INWED 2024 Newsletter

Welcome to the first official #INWED newsletter! As we approach International Women In Engineering Day, we would like to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the remarkable contributions of women engineers around the world. This years theme, #EnhancedByEngineering highlights the positive impact engineering has had on our society and everyday lives.

Throughout history women engineers have paved the way for innovation, pushing boundaries and overcoming obstacles in various fields. They have enhanced our world by developing new technologies, improving existing systems, and creating solutions to global challenges. This day is an opportunity to honour their achievements and inspire the next generation of female engineers. In our 11th year, let’s reflect on the history of this day and where it all began. The impact it has made on our industry and how without the pioneering women who began Women's Engineering Society we wouldn’t have the opportunity to celebrate these achievements. Read our latest post on this history of International Women In Engineering Day here:

At Women's Engineering Society, we are proud to support and uplift women in engineering. We believe that diversity and inclusivity foster a more innovative and prosperous future for all. As we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, we’ll be showcasing the incredible women who have paved the way for future generations by making significant contributions to the field and society as a whole. Some of these women include:

  • Rachel Parsons - Co-Founder and first President of the Women’s Engineering society, who trained, supported and empowered female engineers.
  • Katherine Johnson - A mathematician whose calculations were crucial in the success of NASA’s first Apollo 11 mission.
  • Ada Lovelace - The first computer programmer, who paved the way for modern computing.

Of course, this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the remarkable women in our field. Our aim with International Women In Engineering Day is to honour our predecessors, celebrate the achievements of our prevailing colleagues and inspire future innovators to pursue greatness in a field which can shape the future of our planet. With this in mind, we encourage you to share your stories and celebrate the women engineers who have inspired you using the hashtag #EnhancedByEngineering. Let’s reflect together on the significant contributions women have made to our ever-evolving world through innovation, aptitude and pure brilliance.

We invite you, fellow female engineers and supporters, to celebrate the women who have paved the way for us to work in such an exciting field. Share your stories and success and inspire young women to pursue a career in engineering on the 23rd of June 2024. Host your own event or find one near to you here:

Well done WES. As a woman in the engineering I am truly inspired by your work and gladly join you to celebrate INWED 2024. Recognizing and celebrating the contributions of women in engineering will bring us closer to bridging the gender gap in the engineering profession.
