This weeks spotlight: Lillian Evelyn Gilbreth (1878 - 1972)
Lillian Evelyn Gilbreth was a pioneering American engineer, psychologist and author, widely recognized as the "First Lady of Engineering." Alongside her husband, Frank Gilbreth, she developed innovative methods to improve industrial efficiency and productivity through the application of psychology and engineering principles.
Gilbreth made significant contributions to the fields of motion study, time management and ergonomics, which helped revolutionise the manufacturing industry. She co-authored several books with her husband, including "Applied Motion Study" and "Cheaper by the Dozen," a best-selling autobiographical account of their family life and career achievements.
As a woman in a male-dominated field, Gilbreth broke barriers and challenged societal norms. She was the first female member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the first woman to receive the prestigious Hoover Medal for her achievements in the field of engineering.
Lillian Evelyn Gilbreth's groundbreaking work has left a lasting impact on industrial engineering, paving the way for future generations of women in STEM. Her commitment to improving efficiency, promoting work-life balance and advocating for women's rights in the workplace serves as an inspiration to engineers around the world.

?? Quote of the week:
“I have very personally felt the overwhelming loneliness, self-doubt, and frustration that often comes with the minority status of a woman in engineering. As much as I can help others get through or avoid those difficult stretches that I myself had to weather, I’d like to. As a bonus, the more women (and minorities) that enter and don’t leave the field, the better it all gets for everyone, including me!” - Tracy Chou
