Cold mails work...or they don't. An effective way to engage someone is by asking for their advice. People love sharing their knowledge and expertise—it gives them an opportunity to shine.
Starting with a request for advice creates a natural entry point for your conversation. The common mistake many make is jumping straight into “the pitch,” which often causes the recipient to mentally check out and send your email straight to the trash.
The beauty of an “advice email” is that it allows you to subtly promote your product without the directness of a traditional sales email. In fact, this indirect approach can sometimes be even more effective in driving sales.
