The Engtal Scoop: The new way of working - predictions for 2022
A Q&A with Jacob Wolf
?
The Marketing team sat down with Jacob Wolfe, one of our specialist recruitment delivery consultants here at Engtal to learn more about his thoughts on the future of the hybrid workforce in 2022 and beyond...
Jacob, you've been supporting clients in the tech space with their hiring requirements in what has been one of the biggest periods of transformational change for many companies as the world embraces remote and hybrid ways of working following the pandemic.
What do you think professionals will want from their employer moving forward in the new year??
Since the global pandemic took hold, we have witnessed one of the biggest shifts in how we work and where we work. It has made companies not just in tech, but all industries reassess how they work, how they access talent, how they interact with their employees, and what they can do to ensure a balanced and productive workforce across all types of working styles.
A recent report by PwC claims that 51% of employees now want a hybrid work set up. Flexible and hybrid schemes offer people both the freedom and flexibility to achieve a greater work/life balance and as workplaces open back up – remote roles and Hybrid still look set to stay.?
For companies everywhere, the remote aspect of work now means they can tap into talent worldwide, not just in specific locations. It's opened up a world of opportunities and enlightenment to find the right people who don't need to be in the correct zip code to work for a company.
From my clients and tech network, this way of working looks set to stay, with many companies offering a blend of remote/hybrid/on-site positions depending on the nature of the company and team set-up.
What do you think are the key drivers that companies must embrace to build a sustainable workforce??
In the same report by PwC, 83% of employers reported that they shifted to remote working successfully in 2021; this number is a significant uptick from the 73% the previous year.?
In my opinion, companies that have transitioned by building out options for their employees that then take into account the unique needs of their workforce and embrace the technologies that empower employees by providing a secure and collaborative work experience will continue to thrive.?
Now, small to large corporations understand the advantages of Hybrid and work set-ups, and this looks set to be the norm moving into 2022 and beyond.
Who do you think have been the most prominent leaders in tech that have adopted Hybrid working??
There's been a wave of announcements of companies in the tech world taking a progressive approach to remote and hybrid styles; the ones that stand out to me include the likes of Google creating the 'campfire method' where teams could collaborate in a circular setting, both on and offscreen. Microsoft was also pretty quick to adopt a hybrid work infrastructure to accommodate its employees.
Finally, what do you think will be the most critical challenge for companies as they build out hybrid working?
From the insight, I receive from my tech community - the digital infrastructure required to ensure seamless Hybrid and remote working will be a top priority for companies. This means consistent data access via cloud-based platforms that allow teams to be fully functional and connected anywhere in the world.
