English Wednesday for friends, join us!

Would you like to practise your English? Are you free on Wednesday evenings? If the answer is yes to both questions, I invite you to be part of our group: English Wednesdays for Friends. We are a group of locals and foreigners who want to speak English whilst socialising with a variety of people of all ages, although it is true that the youngest ones are in their mid-thirties. Does it sound interesting? How did we create this group?

To be honest, the original group was called Pamplona Habla Inglés, and even though I don’t know exactly in which year it was created, I joined around ten years ago. At that time, the meeting was held in Caballerizas, and loads of people used to participate every week. However, I reckon that the old organiser got a little bit tired of managing the group.

The point is that after some years living abroad and the COVID pandemic, last year I found out that the group was still active and meeting at Basoko Taberna bar. Thus, when in June I managed to be more free from work, I decided to give it another try after so many years of absence. It turned out that that day was the final official meet-up since the organiser wanted to have a break during the summer. Nevertheless, because some of the members still wanted to meet up in the summer, we decided to create a WhatsApp group that has been growing over the year.

Nowadays, the former organiser is gone, and we, the veterans, are coordinating the group. Notwithstanding, we noticed that the meetings haven’t been promoted for a year, so I have created an Instagram and a Facebook account so more people can get to know our group. This way, not only can we keep it going, but we can also make it bigger.

Do you want to join us? We meet every Wednesday around 7 PM and finish approximately at 9. Since this is not a class, people come and leave whenever they want. So, I would recommend coming a little bit later than 7 PM to ensure that you are not alone. Or even better, join our WhatsApp group, and you will know what time and when members are going. Do you want to come? Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. We are just some friends speaking English. Nobody is judging you, and we are here to help. Should you be interested, please check our social networks or PM me so I can add you to the WhatsApp group. Come on, give it a try!
