"English is the hottest new programming language" - Andrej Karpathy (previously Director of AI at Tesla, OpenAI)
In the oncoming disruption that is Generative AI??, one key concept that we all need to understand, whether we're data engineers, data scientists, or working on semantic models, reports, apps, or any data-related automation, is prompt engineering.
What's prompt engineering? ?? Well, it's all about creating the perfect "prompts" or input text that guide language models, like GPT, to produce the output we want.
Why does it matter? A well-crafted prompt helps the AI "get" the context and goal of the task, as well as the format or structure we're looking for in the response. It's crucial because the output's quality depends a lot on the input prompt. In short: better prompts = less "garbage in, garbage out"! ?????? And by tweaking the prompt and using techniques like meta-learning (e.g., few-shot learning), we can boost the AI model's performance and get more accurate, relevant, and creative results.
To dive deeper into this topic, I experimented with ChatGPT4.0 and OpenAI Service in Azure using a hypothetical use case. Check out my write-up for a simple explanation of what prompt engineering is! ????
