Engineers Week 2025 Spotlight: Austin Stanfield
How long have you been an engineer and from where did you graduate? What is your degree?
I have been an engineer for about 2 and a half years, and I started my career here at MSS. I graduated from UNC Charlotte with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
What attracted you to the engineering field?
I have always loved learning how things work and function. Growing up, I used to watch “How It’s Made” constantly. I love seeing the behind-the-scenes processes in which items that we use every day are manufactured.
What do you enjoy most about what work you do? What are you looking forward to in the future?
I really enjoy problem solving and the sense of accomplishment I get from figuring out a solution of a complex problem. In the future, I am looking forward to continuing to grow my knowledge and hopefully become a mentor to others. I want to help them feel the same sense of accomplishment.
What is some advice you would give to someone considering becoming an engineer? What skills or qualities do you think are essential for being a successful engineer?
The best advice I can give is always keep improving. Mistakes are inevitable, but you must learn from them and be better the next time. The greatest skill you can have is being able to learn from your mistakes, and even others mistakes, and come out on the other side better than you were before.
