Engineers Week 2024: Jack Flynn

How long have you been an engineer and from where did you graduate?

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. I graduated December 15th, 2023.

What attracted you to the engineering field?

What attracted me to the engineering field is that I have always enjoyed taking math and science classes. However, the biggest thing is I always have enjoyed problem solving, which is exactly what engineers do.

What do you enjoy most about what work you do? What are you looking forward to in the future?

The thing I enjoy the most with the work I do is not only do I have to problem solve, but I am in constant communication with my team members and actively collaborating to get these problems solved in the most efficient way possible. What I am looking forward to in the future would be obtaining my fundamental of engineering and professional engineering license.

What is some advice you would give to someone considering becoming an engineer?

The advice I would give to someone that is considering becoming an engineer is to first research the different majors and job fields for engineers to see what interests them the most. The next piece of advice I would give is to try and get an internship in an engineering industry that interests you. This will allow you to get a better understanding of how the real world of engineering works and will allow you to pick a career path that best suits you.
