Filip Spirkoski studied Software Development before joining our graduate program in Skopje, Macedonia, in 2014. So how did he end up becoming our Senior Test Consultant??

“When I started as a developer, I never considered Testing as it was not emphasised as a possible path before I joined our graduate program as a Junior Automation Tester. The course allowed me to try something new and showed me that delivering software is much more than the perspective I had as a young developer.”?

“Testing has a different mindset to Development. It explores how the same documentation and solutions can be interpreted from multiple perspectives – thinking beyond a solution’s primary purpose to investigate and resolve any flaws.”

“This clarification and its importance were overlooked by most companies, especially for people just about to enter the IT world.” He said.?

Since finding his niche in Testing, Filip has simply followed his interests and strengths.?

“The technical career path, like any other, is just a list of choices one makes in a given direction. It's all about the chances presented to you and how you decide to act on them, so dig in and enjoy it,” he said.??

“My personal benchmark is to make sure you like what you are doing and that the time and effort you invest is well spent. It's important to know what you want to make of it.”?

Filip’s career has been diverse. He started as a Junior Test Engineer in Payments and went on to Banking, Media, and Insurance.?

“Testing is an area that offers endless diverse opportunities, so it’s hard to get bored,” he said. “Each industry tests differently – the teams, approaches, tools, challenges and opportunities.”?

“After all these years, I can say there’s still a lot to be learned, and in a way, that’s the beauty of this industry.”??

“For example, in April 2017, I became a Scrum Master after attending several internal Agile Delivery events to learn more and earning the necessary certifications. We have quite an advanced community here that really supported me too.”??

Filip has been building on his skill set during his time here too. He started with Selenium Testing, Test Automation and Java, and learned Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Protra, WebdriverIO, and TypeScript.?

“Test automation in Java is my technical strength, though I have worked with other languages, depending on the needs, design test frameworks and approaches, including CI/CD.” He said.??

As a Senior Test Consultant, Filip now plays a critical role in ensuring the quality of our software applications by devising testing strategies, executing tests, improving processes, and collaborating with various stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.??

“The rapid changes in the IT world and the new tools and approaches make this career quite exciting,” he added. “Each project and engagement teaches me new perspectives that motivate me to keep learning to improve myself and my work.”?

“Taking on technical challenges is a big part of what we do as testers. I’m quite adaptable and resilient, so I try to look at a problem not as something you are unwillingly asked to handle but as a new challenge to learn from.”?

“As long as you enjoy what you’re doing on the technical side, the so-called problems become one in a series of many challenges and opportunities to grow in an area you can explore further.”?

Filip’s experience is not just about technical skills and tools, but also about soft skills like how he can support the broader team effort.?

“I enjoy working with people and supporting them. I think every company’s strong suit is the team.” He said.??

“Over the years, you find role models and learn from others. As we become leaders and mentors, we share the things we wished we had learned sooner ourselves.”?

“So, I think Technical Excellence is your attitude and dedication toward your work. It requires social and organisational skills, the foresight to prevent potential issues, and a continuous mindset of attention to sustainable code, learning, and teamwork.”?
