Numerous Indian engineers have made significant contributions to the smooth functioning of society. Engineers take abstract concepts and turn them into useful things that improve society and the lives of people. Every day, we use engineering-related inventions, from household appliances to building infrastructure, as well as tools that simplify and expedite our daily lives and tasks. In honour of Engineer's Day, Advent Biztech Solutions presents six such legendary, marvellous engineering structures in India.

The Statue of Unity, Gujarat

The Statue of Unity, a magnificent statue created in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, is proudly the world's tallest building!

The large-scale project was started and successfully finished by Larson & Toubro in 2018, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened it. This enormous statue, which proudly sits on the Narmada River, was built using a total of 135 tonnes of iron. Indians are proud of this engineering marvel, which is located in their country.

Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Maharashtra

The Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, also known as the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, is an amazing bridge in India that connects South Mumbai to the western suburbs of Mumbai.

Bandra-Worli Sea Link is the first 8-lane construction project that consists of seismic arrestors and can resist earthquakes up to 7.0 on the Richter scale. The bridge is a cable-stayed structure with pre-stressed concrete-steel viaducts on either side. The Hindustan Construction Company built this as well.

Pamban Bridge, Tamil Nadu

The Pamban Railway Bridge, which was constructed in 1914 and spans from Mandapam town to Pamban Island and Rameswaram, is more than 100 years old. The double-leaf bascule portion in the middle of this engineering marvel's first sea rail bridge project in India may be lifted to allow ships to pass underneath. Travellers taking trains or ships across the spectacular building are still in awe of its astounding design and construction.

Auroville Dome, or Matrimandir, Tamil Nadu

The Auroville Dome at Auroville, Tamil Nadu, is another remarkable example of an engineering marvel in India.

It is a building of spiritual significance to practitioners of integral yoga and is also known as the Matrimandir, or Temple of the Mother. The building was finished in 1971. The Matrimandir is a massive sphere with 12 petals and golden discs that catch the sunlight and reflect it, giving the dome a magnificent glow.

Pir Panjal Railway Tunnel, Jammu and Kashmir

The Pir Panjal Railway Tunnel sometimes referred to as the Banihal Railway Tunnel, is an 11.2 km long tunnel constructed at a height of 1440 ft in the Pir Panjal hills of the Himalayas.

It is the second-longest tunnel in Asia, and it is also the longest in India. In addition to linking the Bichleri Valley in Banihal to Qazigund, the tunnel is a crucial conduit bridging Udhampur and Baramulla. The Hindustan Construction Company constructed it.

Panval Nadi Viaduct, Maharashtra

The Panval Nadi Viaduct in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, is a superstructure erected by the Konkan Railways that spans the Panval River for 424 meters.

It is a single-cell continuous prestressed concrete box girder. It is Asia's second-tallest bridge. The "Most Outstanding Concrete Structure in India Award" was given to this building by the American Concrete Institute.

Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Bihar

In Bihar, a bridge named the Mahatma Gandhi Setu spans the Ganga River and links the cities of Patna and Hajipur.

It is India's third-longest river bridge, stretching over 5 kilometres in total. Indira Gandhi, the country's first lady at the time, officially opened the bridge to the public in 1982. The bridge has two lanes—one upstream and one downstream—and is a good example of the cantilever segmental construction technique.
