Engineering Salaries on the Rise

Engineering roles were among those receiving the largest salary growth over the last financial year.?

Engineers are seeing their skills rewarded as salaries in the profession have jumped significantly this year, with some roles among the biggest pay increases across industries.

According to Engineers Australia and the Mercer Report, engineering vacancies in 2023 reached their highest point in over a decade, driven by strong demand for expertise in infrastructure, renewable energy, and digital transformation.

Some key stats:

  • A 50% increase in job advertisements nationwide over the past year.
  • Queensland led the charge, with a massive 67% growth in vacancies, while New South Wales and Victoria also reported strong demand.

The report highlights the importance of transferable skills, flexible training, and coordinated policies in achieving net zero goals.

The research, in partnership with Mott MacDonald, confirms that while many engineers will transition smoothly to the growing clean energy sector, others need more support.
