Engineering & Scaffold Excellence in Hamilton City: A Collaboration Between Prime Property and Safesmart Access
Prime Property recently undertook the ambitious refurbishment of 500 Victoria Street in Hamilton, which included replacing the building’s facade and ensuring modern functionality. Safesmart Access was brought on board to provide a scaffolding design and supply that could meet the unique challenges of this high-profile project.?
The scaffold scope had complexities including the need to build 13 lifts of scaffolding on an existing shopfront canopy without exceeding its load capacity and maintaining public access to businesses below. Continue reading explore how SafeSmart addressed these challenges and provided an access solution for Prime Property to complete their works.
Engineering a Solution for Complex Structural Challenges
Unlike a basic fa?ade scaffold which could be built up from the ground, this project demanded an advanced structural approach. Several key factors influenced the design:
Maintaining Customer Access – Retail and commercial spaces at street level needed to remain operational throughout the project, meaning any scaffolding system had to avoid obstructing storefronts.
Scaffolding on an Existing Canopy: A major challenge was the presence of a shopfront canopy extending over the footpath, which required the scaffold to be securely built above without exceeding the load capacity of the canopy. This required:
The 14m Clear Span was achieved using Proscaf HD Trusses and Proscaf Load Bearing Diagonal Braces, showcasing the versatility and strength of standard steel Proscaf. These industry leading pre-engineered Proscaf components enable the SafeSmart Access design and engineering team to produce engineered designs in a quick turnaround for complex projects like this one.
