Engineering is all around us, without engineers, we wouldn’t have any clean water, roads, transport, hospitals, communications, and technology…
Engineering is often overlooked, and I want to help change that, which is why I am proud to support future leaders in engineering.
Recently I returned to my former School, Nottingham High School, where I spoke about careers in engineering to year 10 students, and discussed the almost endless career options an engineer has. I also supported the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship with interviewing future leaders in engineering. We are going to need more engineers to help tackle environmental issues in coming years, and society will depend heavily on them.
The Arkwright Scholarships Trust identifies, inspires and nurtures future leaders in engineering, computing and technical design. It is a registered charity that administers the most prestigious scholarship scheme of its type, with over 4,000 awarded to date. It is designed to help school-age students become the country’s future leaders in Engineering. I was lucky enough to have been one of these students, and was delighted to be invited back to help with the interviewing process.
The Scholarships are awarded following a rigorous selection process including an application form, aptitude test and an interview.
Did you know the new pound coin was designed by an Arkwright Scholar?
The Scholarships are sponsored by commercial companies, trade associations, Universities, Charities and even personal donors. The money donated is used to support the student with a project and the scheme helps match students with mentors to support them in their career planning.
It is great to be supporting careers in engineering when a new Flood Risk Engineering Foundation Course has just been announced by John Curtin from the Environment Agency.
Should you wish to sponsor a future leader in engineering, I would be delighted to make the relevant introductions to Arkwright.
If you are organising an event or publication with a focus on engineering in the near future, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you
