Just some of the crucial topics in the spotlight?include: strategies and innovations aimed at mitigating climate change's impact on our oceans and coastal areas, the potential of water-based renewable energy sources and their role in shaping a sustainable future, and the integral role of procurement in achieving the objectives of an eventual EU Blue Deal. The range of backgrounds of the speakers emphasises our commitment to?wider partnerships. We'll be seeking to construct a vision of what an EU Blue Deal should entail. It's an opportunity to network, learn, and contribute to shaping a greener, more sustainable future for Europe and beyond.
EFCA Future Leaders Day: Discussing sustainability in engineering
With just three weeks remaining until the?EFCA Conference in Madrid, we can now reveal the official?programme for our Future Leaders Day!?
Panel 1: Sustainability in Spain. Panel 1?will explore the unique opportunities and challenges that Spain faces in its efforts to achieve its sustainability targets and discuss innovative?projects that have emerged in response. We will also tackle the vital issue of social sustainability and strategies to address shortages in skilled employees. Join us as we welcome?panelists?Gabriela Bachiller (Climate & Sustainability Services, ARUP) and Alejandro de Juanes (Head of Consultancy – Environment Area, MAI GROUP).
Panel 2: Overuse of Materials in Europe. In our second panel, we'll turn our attention to the overuse of materials in Europe, a critical concern for sustainability and resource management.?
Panel 3: AI/BIM Implementation and Impact?in Spain The third panel will shed light on the implementation and impact?of AI/BIM technology in Spain's architectural and engineering landscape and the??transformative potential of these technologies, with insights from Fidel San Emeterio, Director Engineering & Architecture Design, AYESA.

Advancing construction sector digitalisation: EFCA's key initiatives spotlighted at High-Level Construction Forum
The European Commission's 4th annual plenary meeting of the High-Level Construction Forum, held on 24 April, served as a platform for addressing the strategic challenges encountered by the construction sector and exploring potential solutions. Sue Arundale, EFCA's Director General, was invited?to highlight EFCA's implementation of the Transition Pathway, emphasising its significant role in driving the digitalisation of the construction ecosystem. She presented three key initiatives: EFCA's collaboration with buildingSMART International, EFCA's active engagement in the sub-group to the Expert Group on Cloud Computing Contracts, and EFCA's successful partnership with the University of Marburg in organising a seminar on Leveraging AI and Prompt Engineering for Strategic Scenario Planning.
Day of Liberal Professions at the EESC
On 7 May, Sue Arundale, EFCA's Director General, will join the EESC's Day of the Liberal Professions 2024, on the them of?Professional Support for the Blue Deal.?This year's event will bring together key policymakers from the European Commission, European Parliament, and Member States, alongside representatives of liberal professions, to tackle the pressing challenges surrounding water management. EFCA's contribution will focus on the importance of spatial planning and engineering expertise in effectively managing water-related risks. EFCA advocates for the implementation of an EU Blue Deal, emphasising the urgent need to curb overconsumption of dwindling water resources, prioritise climate adaptation measures, and safeguard existing water infrastructure from further deterioration.?The conference welcomes participation from the public, offering the option to attend either in person or remotely. Prior registration by 2 May is necessary for both attendance modes.?
