Call for an EU Blue Deal: making water a policy priority
In a high-level conference held in Brussels last week, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted its proposal for an "EU Blue Deal." EFCA welcomes the EESC's proposal, which rightly?underscores the urgent necessity of safeguarding the fundamental human right to clean water. Giving water the priority it deserves and implementing strategic policies to address water-related challenges are vital steps in this important endeavour. However, we believe that the EU Blue Deal should place a significant?emphasis on the crucial connection between effective water management and climate adaptation, especially in the context of utilising water-based renewable energy sources.?More information.
EFCA welcomes?European Wind Power Action Plan
The European Commission has published its long-anticipated communication on a European Wind Power Action Plan. In her State of the Union Address 2023, Ursula von der Leyen?announced the EU's commitment to collaborating with industry stakeholders and Members States in developing a European Wind Power package, which would streamline permitting procedures, enhance auction systems, promote skill development, facilitate access to financial resources, and ensure stable supply chains.?As we are aware of the current challenges in the renewable energy sector, including long planning and permitting procedures, as well as a lack of financial incentives, EFCA welcomes the Commission's work on this matter. Currently, investment?and skills go to other regions and industries that are developing?renewable energy projects. To successfully meet our climate objectives, the European Union must establish a more robust policy framework. More information.
