EFCA supports railway development in Sub-Saharan Africa

Last week EFCA, along with some consulting engineering firms, was present at the launch of the Global Gateway Railway Working Group dedicated to investments and projects in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. The kick-off meeting opened the cooperation between the European Commission and private stakeholders, particularly those from the European rail industry, with the goal of promoting the roll-out and implementation of EU technologies, standards and regulations in third countries. EFCA’s message was that it is possible to address and implement many of these aims through an integrated approach at project level, something that the engineers are already used to doing. Furthermore, with their designs, rail projects can also be used to tackle climate change and?sustainable development; and other EU industries and policies can benefit. As in all infrastructure contracts, EFCA advocates for a level playing field when working in third countries and for quality and value, rather than the lowest price.

Cement and Engineering Sectors Agree On Challenges

EFCA staff joined other stakeholders yesterday at CEMBUREAU’s event Cementing Europe’s Future: Where Next for Industrial Decarbonisation? When discussing the future of both the cement and the wider construction sector, several key common aspects become apparent. Improvement of the public procurement framework, with an emphasis on green public procurement and breaking away from the ‘lowest price’ problem; increasing use of CCUS technologies, which require a good transnational carbon transport network, and an integrated system approach (capture-transport-storage). These, and agreement that industrial decarbonisation in Europe requires a lot of additional (renewable) energy production and distribution capacities, provide opportunities for collaboration between the two sectors and EFCA looks forward that. Follow the link below for highlights from the event. ?
