Engineering for a Better Tomorrow: How we are making an Environmental Impact through the C-43 West Basin Storage Reservoir (WBSR) Project
At our company, engineering is about so much more than just building structures. It's about improving the quality of life for all. That's why we are proud to be a part of the C-43 West Basin Storage Reservoir (WBSR) project, which is a vital component of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). This project aims to restore central and south Florida water resources, which will positively impact the environment and the communities around them.?
The C-43 WBSR will store stormwater runoffs and releases from Lake Okeechobee. It will also reduce the discharges from Lake Okeechobee to the Caloosahatchee Estuary. In addition, the reservoir will hold water from the wet season to provide freshwater flows to the Estuary during the dry season to balance salinity levels and support plants and wildlife. The reservoir is being built on a 10,500-acre parcel in South Florida and will have a water depth ranging from 15 to 25 feet, depending on storage needs. Also, the project will provide public access and recreational opportunities and maintain an allocated water supply for local agricultural areas.
Our team conducts daily inspections of construction activities, including embankment, soil bentonite walls, and soil cement coating for dam walls. We review project specifications and project documentation to ensure they meet quality standards and testing requirements. Our team works diligently to maintain the project progress ahead of schedule.
