Engineering the AI applications (Part 9): Conceptual I/O - Envisioning the HMI in the age of AI.
In this short post, I would like to share a few lessons that we have learnt while developing the AI applications.
Context of this Article: Envisioning the HMI in the age of AI.
In this short Q&A, we will discuss the idea of Conceptual I/O - a term I prefer to use in interacting with the AI systems.
You: What is the most important research you would like to pursue in the field of AI?
Me: I look at the AI from the utility view point rather a fully established formal proofs. Firstly, let's streamline the human interaction with the AI systems.
Developing a Markup/Markdown language for the HMI of AI is of my first step.
You: Do you think the current HMI is not capable of dealing with AI?
Me: Yes .. Our systems are built with a philosophy of "procedural" thinking. Bur AI needs a conceptual representation of the HMI. Of course, there are several tools and languages developed to deal with symbols and concepts. But we need a more easy to use HMI for AI that can handle concepts.
AI - Human Interactions to deal with concepts (symbols).
You: Seems to be an interesting view point. What is the unit of your "Conceptual I/O"?
Me: A symbol. A concept.
You: You mean to say that you envision use of Symbolic processing in "Conceptual I/O"?
Me: Correct.
You: Are you not re-inventing the wheel?
Me: NO. My life is short!! Let's make use of the existing languages and standards like Prolog, S-Expressions, Scheme etc and develop a unified HMI for AI.
You: Do you mean to say - a browser of AI?

Me: Something similar. I envision the Conceptual I/O as a way of representing the Knowledge to interacting with the AI.
You: Do LLMs help in Conceptual I/O?
Me: Yes. Certainly. LLMs can be an important and significant sub-system to realize "Conceptual I/O".
You: I am thinking the Conceptual I/O is an HMI abstraction of AI models - including LLMs themselves?
Me: Yes. Hopefully the idea of Conceptual I/O help streamline the "Prompts".
You: Are you considering leveraging the existing interfaces standards like FMI, Web 3.0 etc ?
Me: Absolutely. As I said, we have several standards in place. Conceptual I/O is not a standalone approach. it is an integrated approach with several related and existing standards.
You: When start talking about the "Conceptual I/O"?
Me: Started with you!
You: Good Luck.
Me: Thank You.

Sir Do you think buttons will become obsolete as NLP-based interaction emerges as the primary interface between devices and humans?
