ENGIE Factory Newsletter (End of 2023 edition)
Take a look at how we've wrapped up 2023!
ENGIE Factory wishes you a Happy New Year!
In 2023, ENGIE Factory continued making climate tech a reality and contributed to a flourishing startup ecosystem. We grew our portfolio by launching three new ventures — in battery storage, cold chain decarbonisation and nature-based solutions — each with the potential to play a pivotal role in advancing the energy transition.??
2023 saw a growing interest in climate-tech solutions, yet climate-tech venture capital funding dropped. Despite an urgent need to fund climate innovation, global inflation, a venture capital crisis, and geopolitical turmoil are catching up. In this context, it has never been a better time for corporates to lead the way: we can unlock resources, expertise and networks to support startups.?
ENGIE has set bold ambitions to be a leader in the energy transition. At ENGIE Factory, we build decarbonisation startups from scratch, thereby acting at the core of the Group’s innovation efforts, alongside our venture capital arm ENGIE New Ventures and other research and innovation colleagues.??
We are excited to keep growing in 2024, launching ventures in more countries. We will continue our efforts to decarbonise hard-to-abate industries, test new business model innovation to deploy more clean energy and provide innovative solutions to enable the transition to happen faster.??
This could not happen without the support of our team, founders, partners and ENGIE colleagues. So let us also use this opportunity to express our gratitude to all of them: thank you for being part of our journey.

ENGIE Factory 2023 Review
Upcoming 3 New Builds
Hummingbird
The cumbersome process of quantifying and certifying carbon credits emerged as an obstacle to carbon abatement, impeding investments in nature conservation. Hummingbird is an end-to-end platform, designed to facilitate the development and investment in carbon credit.
Polar
Polar takes on the challenge of decarbonising the cold chain industry which suffers from energy efficiency issues and food wastage, resulting in high carbon emissions. Polar offers a Cold Room-as-a-Service model, bringing modular cold rooms and management systems for energy efficiency.??
Nexvolt
As we move towards an increasingly electrified future, grid stability and energy optimization are key issues. Battery storage solutions will continue playing a key role, yet for many customers, they are expensive to acquire and a pain to manage. Nexvolt is delivering and managing batteries for multiple users, minimizing the investment required and maximising the usage of the battery.
