Engaging Residents for Successful Retrofit Projects: The Power of Early Adoption and Clear Communication
In the rapidly evolving world of retrofitting, resident engagement is not just a nicety—it's a necessity. Successful retrofit projects hinge on the early adoption and understanding of retrofit measures by residents. A lack of understanding or misconceptions about the process can lead to aborted installations or lack of measure adoption, causing delays, increased costs, and overall project inefficiencies.
The Importance of Resident Engagement
When residents are not adequately informed or engaged, they may develop misconceptions about the retrofitting process. These misconceptions can stem from a variety of sources—misinformation, past experiences, or simple fear of the unknown. Addressing these concerns proactively can make a world of difference.
Collaborative Solutions
The responsibility of ensuring successful retrofit projects doesn't fall on a single entity. Clients, installers, and retrofit assessors all play a pivotal role in this process.

The Q-Bot UFI Measure and E.O.N's Successful Engagement Days
The Q-Bot Ltd Under Floor Insulation (UFI) measure is an innovative solution involving robots to apply insulation under floors, minimizing disruption and ensuring a more efficient installation process. However, the mention of "robots" might raise eyebrows among residents unfamiliar with the technology.
In June 2023, E.ON UK , in collaboration with Peaks & Plains Housing Trust , Q-Bot Ltd and other measure providers such as Energy Projects Plus , organized multiple successful resident engagement days in Macclesfield, UK. Residents were invited by letter to learn about the retrofit measures being offered for free funded by E.ON. The only requirement was to allow a retrofit assessment and subsequent installation.
During these engagement days, several concerns were raised by the residents, from fears about intrusion to worries about chemical fumes. However, through effective communication and demonstrations, these concerns were addressed, and residents left with a clear understanding of the process, looking forward to the benefits. Some even took leaflets to share their excitement with their neighbours!
